We are not here to become someone else.
We are here to become more familiar with ourselves.
To notice what is happening before we rush to change it.
To feel what the body is already saying.
To listen for what is ours beneath the noise.
Regulation is not the destination. It creates the space from which we can listen more clearly.
From there, we can choose.
We can adjust.
We can practice another way of responding.
And then we give it time.
Not everything needs to happen immediately.
Some things need to be experienced again and again before they begin to feel familiar.
The aim is not perfection. It is learning how to return.
Feel. Listen. Live.
Feel what is happening. Listen to what is yours. Live from what you hear.
A rhythm I return to
Life will sometimes bring something that unsettles us.
A conversation, a decision, a fear, a reaction we did not expect.
My first impulse is not always to understand it or solve it.
Sometimes I simply need to notice what happened.
Observe.
What am I feeling? What is happening in my body? What has been activated?
Regulate.
Create enough space for the body to settle and for the noise to become quieter.
Adjust.
From there, I can ask myself how I actually want to respond, what I want to choose, or what kind of experience I want to move toward.
Integrate.
Then I try not to force it. I give the body time to become familiar with that new possibility.
And sooner or later, life gives us another opportunity to experience it.
Sometimes I surprise myself by responding differently.
Sometimes the old response is still there.
Either way, I can return and begin again.
I do not believe there is one way to understand ourselves or the world around us.
What matters to me is having enough space to feel, listen and recognize what is genuinely ours.
From there, we can decide what we believe, how we want to respond, what we want to create and how we want to live.
From the inside out.
